Abu Simbel Profanation is a videogame developed by Víctor Ruíz and published by Dinamic in 1985. More than 30 years later the time has come for the Commodore 64 user to enjoy one of the most difficult games of the spanish software history.

The original instructions said: «Johnny Jones keeps on his personal challenge to the death and dips ladle into the passages and bends of a dark and antique pyramid in Egypt. This means: get the correct diamonds according to their colour, and open the doors with them. Avoid EVERYTHING but the flashing egyptian symbols on squares.»

INTRODUCTION

Johnny Jones, hero of Saimazoom and Babaliba, continues his personal challenge to death in this third part of the Trilogy in which, guided by his love of danger, he plunges deep into the passages and nooks and crannies of a dark and ancient pyramid in Egypt.

For 3,000 years, the best explorers have tried to desecrate the sacred temple of Abu Simbel, built by Emperor Ramses II to house all the riches and secrets that many generations have deposited in its bowels. However, reaching the burial chamber is inaccessible; getting out of the labyrinth alive is impossible. All those who dared to desecrate the temple never returned.

Johnny Jones, blinded by the lure of the challenge, plunges into this nightmare; when all fail and die, the hero attempts the impossible.

ARGUMENT

Our protagonist, by desecrating the temple, has fallen victim to a terrible spell. The spirit of Ramses II has punished his audacity by reducing our hero to the size of a dog with no neck and no upper limbs. Johnny finds himself alone and lost. Surrounded by dangers and deadly passages, he wants his old anatomy back at all costs and to do so he needs to find the central burial chamber.

Before him lay the swamp. In the background he could hear the splashing of voracious piranhas; he could not give up now. He hopped from islet to islet until he reached dry land. Once there, remembering the colour of the diamond, he was teleported into the central crypts. He passed through the knife trap, the electrolytic room, the systematic attack of vampires and poisonous spiders, and was finally able to reach the sphinx room.

He was tired and sweaty, but after taking a deep breath he picked up the magic bowl and, after a short pause, carefully passed it under the electrode and appeared in the deepest and most unknown part of the temple. After countless vicissitudes, he was able to access the burial chamber.   At last, in front of him, lay the secret of Abu Simbel.

Very nice but extremely hard game! In addition, you lose several lives at once in a row in some areas where it shouldn't be. Our German-language review can be found in our recorded livestream starting at 01:00:14. English subtitles are also available (switch on, if necessary). Subscription to our YouTube or Twitch channel is welcome. 🙂

We already showed the game in the standard version on the C64 on August 11th, 2018 and on the Amiga on October 16th, 2021 (see 02:19:07) and remembered it as a very difficult game. We will show this version again on Saturday on the C64 in our livestream on our Twitch channel. 🙂

Fantastic! Thank you!

Thank you for playing it

Good game, thank you. I also added that to my New Games On C64 from February 2024 -video too.

Thanks

It was a good opportunity to make the collisions less bad. Too bad. The game is impossible in this way.

I have used the C64 sprite collision hardware. So, the collision detection is perfect. The problem is not the collision detection but the relative few time to bypass some enemies or the exact timing required to avoid them. In fact, this version is much easier than the original ZX Spectrum version.

Not easy enough. You have to make it even easier.

Very nice !

Is it possible to have the map in uncompressed PNG format ?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no uncompressed variant of PNG format. The map is in JPEG format with high quality.

PNG supports lossless data compression.
try, and you will be able to have a pixel perfect image :-D

Nice game.

Thanks
